Familiar Struggles

I have a good friend
who's darkened
by pain that remains in his thoughts.

Though he ought to tear them out
before they begin to rot.

'Cause I know exactly how he feels!

He shields his heart
with pessimistic thoughts
to keep his hopes low.

It helps make disappointment
and hurt so mild.

While these truths and lies
force your frantic eyes
and reality starts to blur.

I'm sure you'll find some balance
in this wasteland of a world.
