Family heirloom

You gave me this illness
Because you carried it I have to
Am I wrong to find this unfair
Is this illness a family heirloom
Should I hold on to it like a pocket watch
Did you mean for me to have it
Was it an accident
Some kind of involuntary action
When did your parent give it to you
Was it your mother or father
How long has it been in the family
Do you even care that I have it
Will you leave me with only this
Did someone tell you how to breathe
Under this pressure
Or did you teach yourself
Like me
How did you know it was time
Will I have to give it to my children
You gave me this illness
And I will do anything
Not to continue this terrible tradition
