Fate

I stood there in the wide open field
Thunderclouds looming above
What purpose was there now?
What once thrived existed no more
Weeds had overgrown and multiplied for years

Rain threatened and soon fell
Like a small insect caught in a rut
That soon became a raging river
I felt carried away
Letting fate take over

Too tired to fight any longer
I lived my own purgatory
Caught between the happiness I knew and true peace
Unable to carry on the charade
Ready to surrender to whichever side won

The side of unfounded happiness I had struggled to hold on to
For so long mocking me from behind as I fought
The side of peace where this mind and body could rest
But to stay caught in the middle was an unbearable torture
Please save me

Dashed hopes
Dashed dreams
Wishing
Praying
Please don’t allow me to suffer any longer

I gave everything I had to save you
You could give nothing
Now I die just to live
