Fateful Climb

Oh how I try to understand
The chaos clinging to my hand
Past mistakes made; slowly memories fade
Wondering where now will I land
Will it be smack flat on my face
Or strong, proud, and full of grace
Only the higher power knows what in life comes and goes
Yet, I continue to pray for my peaceful place
All the drama, tears, and high stakes
Holding close to stop feeling the shakes
Of the demons inside trying to escape
Lock up the cell, apply the duct tape
Losing control; quickly stomping the brakes
Praying for the sliding to stop
In the devil's valley, looking up to the mountaintop
The journey seems so long and hard; heart and soul already scarred
I keep climbing through the muck and slop
Continue to keep my chin up
Counting the blessings that fill my cup
That allows me to smile,
Take time, lay back and relax for awhile
Before my mind becomes corrupt
Knowing the hard work pays off in time
Quit thinking and finish the climb
Stumbling and tripping; determined and fiercely gripping
Anxious to see my realities with such sublime
