Feeling Colors

I’m feeling grey

“Not pink?’
My mother teases

Certainly not pink
Sunsets over mountain peaks
Sparkly tutus, excited cheeks

Too fresh

Too bright

Too regal

Ya, right

Not red
Angry and passionate
I haven’t the energy

Not even blue
Twittering warblers, Dreamy eyes
Cotton candy, and summer skies

I’m dull gray
Barren wasteland
Heavy and dangerous as lead

My mother wraps her tawny arms around me

As she hugs me
I warm to brown
Just dirt
Yet, like all soil
With possibilities
