Finale Rest

As my eyes slowly shut
For this long-awaited rest
I finally realize
It's my long-awaited death.
No longer shall I breathe
For my lungs have grown weak
And all my memories
Have faded and grown bleak.
I've been waiting for the warmth
The empty, dark, embrace
My eyes will finally close
The serene expression dusting my face.
My skin will fade and change in color
Maybe blue or a saddening white
A lover's eyes may water
At my morbidly peaceful sight.
But do not think that I have left
For my mind is still here.
My terrestrial form, silent and clear
It will watch over those, the ones I call dear.
