Fire
The smell fills my nose,
the smoke stings my eyes.
I cough to clear my lungs,
I take deep breaths to try to stay calm,
but I feel the flames—
they have engulfed me
and made me a part of the fire.
I try to find a way out,
going this way and that,
but I feel myself get slower
I feel my eyes go hazy.
I cannot see straight—
my mind isn’t functioning.
I cannot think right.
My limbs are not working,
I cannot walk anymore—
my body is failing me.
My lungs are completely full of smoke,
my heart weakens and slows.
I open my eyes—
for the last time.
the smoke stings my eyes.
I cough to clear my lungs,
I take deep breaths to try to stay calm,
but I feel the flames—
they have engulfed me
and made me a part of the fire.
I try to find a way out,
going this way and that,
but I feel myself get slower
I feel my eyes go hazy.
I cannot see straight—
my mind isn’t functioning.
I cannot think right.
My limbs are not working,
I cannot walk anymore—
my body is failing me.
My lungs are completely full of smoke,
my heart weakens and slows.
I open my eyes—
for the last time.
