Fire and Smoke in a time of Quarantine

By

As if it weren't enough
that we have to stay at home,
that we have to wear masks,
that we can't go to church,
or be with our friends,

now we are surrounded
by fire and smoke
and breathing in ash.
Oh no! An Alert on my phone!
What do I do?!

I'm all alone
and trying not to panic,
trying to focus.
Oh, it's a Level 1-Be Ready!

But still, I am scared,
and feeling so alone.
Pack! I've got to pack!
Ok. Focus.

I pack some stuff
and I wait...and I wait...
the smoke is so oppressive...
Please, Lord, keep the fires away...
