first date in the orchard

an orchard of apples
peaches and cherries
is a meeting place
where lovers may tarry
the women wear sun dresses
the men sport fine suits
walking through fields
of un-plucked fruits

the sun dips down
the moon takes his place
brown deer part tall grass
with nimble grace
everyone is gone
it's just you and me
what happens next
we couldn't forsee

millions of fireflies
light up the night
bathing the clouds
in shapely delights
we run and we chase
and catch them in jars
grinning like school kids
eating giant candy bars

new love is exhausting
its now time to go
although it is dark
the cockerel gave three crows
after nervous warm kisses
and fingers locked tight
we depart holding our lanterns
of glowing green light
