A strange tide floated in
Lapping at the door.
Fiery October phosphorous
Carried in his debris,
A shipwrecked mariner adrift.
Sand-crusted eyes, a pirates stare,
He had gathered seaweed charms,
Barnacled pendants from the brine.
Hidden in the pebbles
She glistened like an untouched pearl.
Her voice a peaceful surf,
Melodious above the rest
Mystified his heart.
Whiskey breath "" elixir of life,
Swaggered to her endearing shore ""
A crashing tidal wave
Choking his gut.
She roared the oceans storms.
Alone she calmed his hollow timbers
Joining the splinters.
Oxygen once again filled his lungs
Long grown to gills under a liquid blanket.
Drawn to his astringent sea air,
His alluring amulet,
She embraced his pain -
Parlayed it away.
