First Rain

Scattered taps
On the outside
Of my window.

With my heart pounding,
I part the blinds
Just an inch,
Then smile,
But only a little.

Is it really you?

I push the curtain
Completely aside,
Open the window
To let you in.

I allow my smile
To blossom,
The way
The tulips will
In the spring
Now that you’re here.

It took you long enough.
