Fish out of water

I watch as you lay
Like a fish with no water
Scales open and close with fury and violence
Yet nothing in return

Like so with life, you say
Still gasping; Still searching
Eternal yet barren
Always yielding nothing in return

You continue; pressing on with I e purpose
Though you are certain the search steals your very air
You fear suffocation
You know it to be fate; inevitable it is
You gasp as you pray and yet nothing comes
Your know this madness
For we are of too likeness
