Flight

Fifteen minutes after takeoff, my mind makes its way
Dutifully back to you

It’s difficult to distinguish the city below,
The same way my past was
Easily forgotten in your presence
In the center of the vast blue sky
Sits the sun and the clouds,
Absorbed in their own little world

What a strange pair they make,
The sun illuminating the clouds and
The clouds enveloping the sun
In a sense of calmness
Together they decorate the sky

“Please fasten your seatbelts
We are encountering some unexpected turbulence”

A sudden gust of wind separates the clouds
From the comfort of the sun
I drift off alone, back in my darkened state
Farther and farther away
Until the wind eventually tears me apart
