flower face

monday, i broke my ankle whilst running in the grass
when i went to scream for help, my tongue had split in half
i managed to crawl my way home, clawing through the dirt
(it's a shame, because i was wearing my cleanest whitest shirt)
when i arrived at my door, you were carrying cubes of ice
you said they were for me, and i would have to use them twice
you kicked me in my stomach and stomped my broken bone
then you left me sitting on my front step all alone
two days later, you came back with lilacs from the ground
you planted them inside my mouth so i couldn't make a sound
i cried and cried for years while you grew inside of me
until one day, i took the flowers and fed them to the sea
