Fool’s Gold

I wrote you down in permanent ink.
I can’t erase
that part me
that once scribbled your name
into my story.
You were a plot twist.
An unexpected adventure.
A new path
I didn’t know I wanted to explore.
But that’s what we did,
didn’t we?
We explored.
Coming up empty handed.
Still longing for the treasure that might be.
X marked the spot
and we didn’t even pick up a shovel.
