Footprint of Life

Life permeates the air,
What direction it pursues is unknown.
Turn left to follow the crowd,
Turn right to rely on no one,
Or hold steady to the middle,
Where influence is the name of the game.

It is easy to follow the crowd;
The decisions are already made for you.
The statement "this is how it has always been,"
Leaves no chance for errors.

Striving for the goal all by yourself
Can be a very lonely road.
It only takes one big error to pull
The earth out from under you.

But the motto "slow and steady wins the race"
Is one each of us should strive toward.
For our influence of those around us
Inspires them to follow,
And thus your footprint shows upon
Which path to pursue.
