Footprints

A child was lost at sea
You became her anchor
She saw a father in your eyes
She sought security in your arms
Your heart opened to her laughter

A wave came crashing down
The open waters were relentless
She reached for you to save her
You held her afloat as day turned to night
The waves grew stronger with every passing moon

You taught her to keep calm in the high tide
Her feet splashed but then she began to tread
You swam to shore with her in hand
The sands no longer clouded the sky
The winds weakened and the sea was clear

She looked up and you were gone
The sun quickly dried the tear in her eye
The storm soon passed, a rainbow cut through the sky
As her footprints grew larger with every step in the sand,
your heart is what she remembered
