For the First Time

For the first time,
I feel unsafe,
Just a number in a minority waiting to be persecuted.
But I refuse to do so.
There is no reason for us to give in.
We are a strong group,
A group that has moved further than anyone imagined.
It is time for our nation to grow.
I blame hate for what happened.
Nothing but ignorance and hate.
I love and accept people of every religion, ethnicity,
Race and gender or sexual expression,
As long as they are willing to accept me as well.
But people don't always understand.
Guns are not necessary any more.
Automatic weapons should not be accessible.
I shouldn't feel unsafe for being me.
No one should feel unsafe,
For who they are or what beliefs they have.
It's time for a change.
But unfortunately it's those filled with hate who need it the most.
