Forest Fire

I race through the trees, feeling the branches snag my clothes
I choke and gasp, trying to breathe
I feel the fire's heat on my heals
I make a sharp turn when the fire passes me on my left
I stumble to a halt as the fire spreads in front of me
I turn around and around
Trying to find a way out
The fire closing in on me from all sides
I try to scream but the smoke fills my burning lungs
I fall to my knees crying as the fire closes in
