Former Self

There was a girl I used to
know who had dreams
as pure as snow
when she thought of
the future it was
perfectly laid out
shiny and bright
no road blocks she
couldn’t fight
foundation shifted
beneath her feet
left shaken and beat
time started taking a toll
for insecurities
had begun to roll
plagued by doubts
shrinking away
that confidant girl
now kept at bay
the loudest voice
raised to be heard
was fear of
unworthiness
lack of ability
to pursue or attain
those distant dreams
which still remain
her strength
and determination
she must regain
the path forward
overgrown
seedling of hope
has been sown
