A candle flickers in the dark
Its flame a light though there but weakly
So easy to snuff out, a mark
For rain, for wind its life so meekly
Alight to share its fragile self
It bravely ventures off the shelf

This Poems Story

I love to experiment with writing all types of poetry styles, but I am particularly drawn towards poetry that uses rhythm and rhyme. I wrote this poem towards the end of my time in the Navy, a time period that was very difficult for me. I lived in a diesel-smelling world of steel and my spirit yearned for beauty. Writing poetry was truly an escape for me and allowed me access to the artistic world my soul desired.
