A girl holds a torn letter
Can’t move because of her ankle fetter
A prisoner in her heart
A beautiful, broken piece of art
She holds it close to her chest
Hoping her heart will one day rest
When the words are read
They never seem to leave her head
She opens it slow
Waits for the words to flow
Could she possibly throw it away?
She’d always wanted him to stay.
The puddles left by the rain
An abundance of her pain
She drops the letter in the water
No longer does it matter
The first step has been taken
The girl has now reawaken
The clouds part their way
Letting out the sun’s ray
The fetter now falls off
No longer bound by a cuff
A new start to life
Time to start feeling alive
