Free
A spirit cloaked in green
she is the mother
protecting all that has escaped the world's greatest curse
she reaches further than my eyes can see
fresh and living till world's end
the motor echoes as it pushes forward
I cannot hear a sound
like a macaw I am home
free from my chains of captivity
I sit near the front as the wooden boat continues
whispering silently across soft, breathing waters
I want more than anything to discover
the secrets of the mighty stained-glass river
but I cannot break its untouched code
my toes dip down to have a sip
cool, soundless velvet dances over
breathing
just breathing is the sound of the forest's voice
each creature breathing, living as one
peace on earth my world would say
but they do not know peace
they haven't been to the lungs of the world
they haven't sipped this silent air
I take in the Amazon with all my soul
I am free
