Free to Fly

It's time
My time is finally coming
After all these years
Of trying to impress you
I can finally say good-bye
To all the tears I had to cry
I can finally be myself
No more hiding
Don't care
I don't care what you think of me
I know what I want to be
No matter what they say
Remember I'm here to stay
I can now say good-bye
To all the tears I've cried
After all these years
I can finally be
Be free to fly
I'm sorry
I'm sorry if this hurts you all
But I've waited for this day
That I could stand here
On this stage
And say what I want to say
I am now ready to spread my wings
And be free to fly

This Poems Story

I was born in January, 1997, in Joplin, Missouri. My father walked out of my life when I was four or five years old and later passed away when I was eleven. His death stung me and hit me hard. I began writing songs and poetry to deal with the pain and express my emotions. My mother never seemed to be interested in my songs or poetry writing abilities. So I wrote "Free to Fly," a poem about standing up for what you believe in and following your dreams. That is what is important in life.
