Freedom

"We are free
We've gained freedom
From foreign domination
We are our rulers now",
I hear people say.

So, why don't i ever feel free?
Why do i always feel bound?
Why can't i go anywhere
At anytime and
Come back without fear?
Is that why because i am a woman?

We are not free,
We are not our rulers,
Because prejudicial beliefs,
Discriminatory traditions and cultures
Rule our lives.

We are not free,
We are not our rulers,
Because we are the main
Domestic servants at homes
And our goals and aspirations
Are secondary.

Who are we then?
We are the largest group
Of oppressed people on earth.
To be free,
To be our rulers
We have to gain freedom
From male-domination.
