Freedom & Evolution
Into the bonfire went his paintings
freed from the flaws of expression
and the limits of simple skills.
The flaws disappeared
never to be seen or remembered.
He watched them move to dreamtime
by degrees, by particles
the ideas now immortal, waiting only
another instance of form
in paint or pencil.
The errors of the artist drive the process
of fitting a species to a rapidly changing
habitat. A little vodka, a little rum,
followed by a little mutation
is good, but too many words just confuse
that and its waste, paper
as too much detail clouds the image
as it shrinks to fit the tired mind.
