Freedom in Chains

(Written in response to L.M.Montgomery’s quote on Hope and Despair)

A mind chained down by a negative hymn,
is governed by Despair’s every whim.

A sullen, diluted, blackened mess,
where all thoughts of hope are put to rest,

And while free you may feel, it should be known,
here you will never be more alone.

So you’ll wither and weep, scream and yell,
free within depression’s cell.

Your thoughts will wander, mind will race,
plunging you deeper within that place.

Forced into sadness, bound by fear,
Dark thoughts will grow ever near.

So tell me again how this can be freeing,
how the grayish corners are ever gleaning.

It's Ironic you harp on the slavery of hope,
when despair very clearly holds the rope.
