Fresh Snow on Rooftops

We drive over that manmade hillock each morning
You half asleep and grumpy
Me rushing to work and resigned

And yet, this is the baptism of the day and
With your young strength beside me
I am anchored in these waters
Me, you, we flap around and almost flounder
Fishlike after all

Look, we are
Cresting the hilltop
The light floods the world
The dome is golden
Hush, my son--listen
The snow is falling,
Fresh and white on slumbering rooftops
