Friendship

I have reserved a special place within for you to dwell
Your presence there means more to me
Than ever tongue could tell.

It's in my heart where all the things of value I do keep
To recall with fondness when I rise
Or just before I sleep.

You draw the laughter from the tears that heartache bids me shed,
You lend me strength to overcome
When trouble rears its head.

No longer do I fear the path where lies the great unknown,
My steps are sure because I know
I do not walk alone.

The tie that binds is not of birth, though blood be no more true,
And grateful shall I always be
To have a friend like you.
