Frigid Space

Two superpowers of the Cold War
One space battle; a battle led by two different men
Wernher von Braun from Germany to lead America
Sergei Korolev to guide the Soviets
The great 'Space Race' rose from tacit threats
Mighty USSR launched the first official satellite;
Sputnik was what it was called
Which intimidated the U.S. into launching theirs;
Explorer I was what it was called
Soviet Yuri Gagarin orbited the whole Earth in 1961
President John F. Kennedy made a bold claim
To land a man on the moon before 1970
Thus came with the instillation of the Mercury Program,
And the Apollo Program to put humans on the moon
The Soviets attacked the U.S. with Valentina Tereshkova
Who became the first woman in space in 1963
The people of the U.S. finally sought freedom
When three famous astronauts would make history
Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, and Neil Armstrong
The first three men to land on the moon
What an amazing feat!
With the fourth failure of the Soviets
To land men on the moon
The U.S. took the lead in the great race
And claimed victory in history!
