Game Day

It was game day,
and the TV volume was set to a high
It was game day
and the teams were donned in their favorite colors
It was game day
and the family was cheering
It was game day
when the illusion broke
It was game day
when she took one too many pills
It was game day
when they heard a deafening crash
It was game day
when she decided that she had lost her game
It was game day
when they rushed her to the hospital
It was game day
when she died, her eyes closed but face smiling
And the TV was still on, but the illusion shattered a long time ago
