Generation La’Z’y

My Generation is so lazy that the only races we win are Netflix marathons.
My generation is so lazy that our to-do lists only consist of one word: nothing.
My generation is so lazy that when faced with the confrontation of problems which would affect us and future generations, we avert our focus, hoping no one will notice our impending doom.
Not realizing that our only window to stop global warming is ending soon, captioning ̈ save the turtles ̈, but not thinking of the starving children as we throw away food. Not thinking about the shootings taking place in our classrooms, not thinking of the complacency taking space in me and you.
Or maybe we’re just not thinking period.
My generation is so lazy that we have no self-preservation.
We create divisions, full of hate which don’t showcase the visions of the greats.
MLK’s “I Have a Dream” influencing the likes of many, yet we’re always on the verge of a race war.
White cops shooting black men unarmed with no penalties. Alton Sterling was just selling his CD’s, Eric Garner’s choking… “I can’t breathe”
It’s Sad the only way they’re remembered is in the form of a retweet.
Which doesn’t even last a week, because the weak don’t really speak on the matter, fearing the start of another tiring conversation, even though it’s what we really need.
The suffocating and erasing of races as a whole is why the Natives have no home, fighting for what they truly own only to be told that they don’t.
I understand it’s just how we cope, but I don’t want that false promise of hope, because at the end of the day this joke isn't funny.
My generation is so lazy, that it’s scary.
It scares me that we’ve learned to become numb to the elephant in the room, the monster in the closet, and the boogeyman under our beds.
I’m scared because nothing is assured, our rights are not secured, and our life is not insured.
My generation is so lazy, that this speech will go over your heads, have you heard one thing I said, we’re likely to end up dead because nothing will be done.
My Generation is so lazy that the only races we win are Netflix marathons.
My generation is so lazy that our todo lists only consist of one word: nothing.
