George Floyd, I Am the Problem

By

George Floyd, I am the problem

If all my friends look and think like me,
I am the problem.

If I believe ‘you people’ are the problem,
I am the problem.

If I think you should just shut up and get a job,
I am the problem.

If I do not seek to understand others unlike me,
I am the problem.

If I believe being white in America is not an advantage,
I am the problem.

If I live in prosperity with no relationships with people in poverty,
I am the problem.

If I never look at myself through the lens of another,
I am the problem.

If I believe money and power are the answer,
I am the problem.

If I believe my political party is the answer,
I am the problem.

If I believe I am not part of the problem,
I am the problem.
