Goodbye Nan

The birds don't sing as loud.
The sun doesn't shine as bright.
The sky is filled with darker cloud.
Fresh baked bread is no longer a delight.

You were like a warrior, oh so strong;
never giving up, always holding on.
Your smile was a drop of sun on a rainy day.
You remained so joyous even through the grey.
Sometimes I wonder why the world has to be so wrong.
I can't believe you're gone.

Now I know you're in a better place;
no more suffering, the pain has come to an end.
I'll always remember Botwood Day and ice-cream on the base.
One day we shall meet again; our hearts will mend.
