Goodbyes

At our meeting it was so simple,
Thoughtless and casual.
At the end of our time
A simple
'Bye'
As we parted.

Further encounters,
Time spent with chimes of laughter
Smiles growing wider
But at each finale simply,
'See you soon'
As the group dismantles.

Regular congregations.
We talk, sometimes with others
Other times not.
Noticing now the melody of your voice
With each more hesitant
'Same time next week'

Now daily contact.
Swimming in placid lake eyes
Just me with you.
No longer so simple
'Goodbye
See you tomorrow?'

Drawn to you,
Imagining soft warm skin
Brushing lips
The thrill of being with you.
The goodbyes are getting harder.
'Do you really have to go?'

More time spent with each other
Still not enough.
No longer you and I,
Longing to be us.
Goodbyes they grow fewer
No need to say it when always together.
