Goodnight

Every night I read to you
As you drift off peacefully.
I watch you sleep and I wonder
How lucky can one person be?

Your beautiful spirit fills our home
With love and laughter and joy.
Each day is a new adventure with you
My growing baby boy.

I look around the dimly lit room
And wonder how long will it be
Before graduation photos replace
All the toys and bears I see?

I'm certainly not the first parent
To rue the passage of time,
But it sure does feel different
When that growing boy is mine.

So tonight as I give your cheek a kiss
I'll drink in every sight
And I'll pray that time slows down for once...
Goodnight, my boy, goodnight.
