Growing

A crib to hold me while I sleep
A gate from danger made to keep
A slight hand slap to keep from burning
A time out for lessons learning

Hands to hold when the street I cross
A spanking so I know who is boss
No Dessert for disrespecting
Lessons that I must keep learning

A word of praise to know I'm worthy
Nasty soap for talking dirty
No car for a week for a slight grade dipping
Not sure of the lessons she is teaching

A headache from the night before
Is this the fun I was looking for
A check that bounced for lack of planning
My Mom I need for reprimanding

An adult I have grown to be
The struggles I have paid as fee
A call to mom for this I'm knowing
The lessons learned to her I'm owing
