Growing Pains

I wore you for days,
Like my favorite sweater,
Hugging me tight,
Making my day better,
Warming my bones,
On those cold nights,
When I always needed,
An extra layer of tights,
Like my favorite sweater,
I washed in the wrong load,
That shrunk in size,
Washing machine set to ‘heavy' mode,
Though you were too small,
I wore you still,
Thinking between the thread,
Was a space I could fill,
But like my favorite sweater,
That my limbs outgrew,
Becoming too small,
I had grown out of you too.
