Guilt

The hopelessness I feel is suffocating
as I watch these beasts approach
with their sharp, glittering weapons.
We are trapped and cannot run
and there is nowhere to hide if we could.
I want to scream as I witness
these monsters dismember my kin limb from limb
but I have no way to voice my pain.
I do not understand why they brutally murder us
by the dozens each day.
Why do they cut down our young before they can grow?
Why do they disrespect our elderly
who have weathered the changes in time?
We are life givers and we have never caused them harm.
So, why do these merciless beings inflict such hurt?
Why does no one speak out against the genocide of my kind?
But, why would you care anyway? After all.
We are only trees.
