Halcyon Beneath a Dying Star
A golden hush in endless night.
The heavens breathe their final glow,
A whisper soft as melting snow.
The air is thick with bygone peace,
A fleeting song that dares not cease.
It hums between the silent waves,
A hymn for gods with empty graves.
But time, a thief in tattered guise,
Plucks halos from the bleeding skies.
The echoes wane, the embers sink,
The dark consumes, the cosmos drinks.
And so beneath this vanishing light,
We dance in dust, we burn in flight.
A halcyon dream—too vast, too far—
A wish undone by a dying star.

Background: This poem captures the fleeting nature of peace and beauty under the shadow of inevitable collapse. The \"halcyon\" represents a brief, golden moment of tranquility, juxtaposed against the impending death of a star a cosmic force that symbolizes both creation and destruction. The imagery of fading light and creeping darkness reflects the transient nature of all things, from civilizations to personal joys. The poem suggests that even in the face of inevitable endings, there is beauty in the struggle to hold onto what is slipping away. The final stanza leaves us with a bittersweet realization: we are fleeting specks in an indifferent universe, dancing in the glow of something that will one day vanish.
