Halo Effect

Man, you’re a sucker for a pretty girl.
That kind of blindness for beauty makes me want to hurl.
Look more closely and you’ll notice,
In its presence, nothing else gains purchase.
No compassion or true grace,
Just a blank and smugly grinning face.
There are exceptions,
Those who suffer enduring trial.
Because pain and suffering makes everyone less vile.
In worst cases, such empty symmetry,
Breeds selfishness and dark malignity.
The same can be said for the handsomest men,
Before their powerful visage the world will bend.
So go ahead and judge a book by its cover.
The prettiest people make the emptiest lovers.
