Hands Like Sparrows

Scratching, smoothing, sorting through debris,
my hands fight disorder and dirt, and they're good at it.
They're quick, agile little things.
They grip scrub brushes, broom handles,
sponges, spatulas, and trash bags.
They lift piles of books, clothes, and dishes.
They scratch at the surface and then polish it.

How I wish they could fly.
Where? I don't know.
I only know it's a shame to have hands
with wings and not use them.
