Hatred Deep Within

New day, new way
Off to school I go
"Straw Katy, Straw Katy," they sneer
"My momma got me this hat," I say
Both of them closed in on me
And the teacher bore down on me
She asked me my name and sent me to a room
Just like everyone else did, will she forget about me, too?
Seeking their company, boys and girls
I told Granny she was not responsible for my soul
My hunger turns into an anger, days upon days
But I cover it with a quick smile and a ready phrase
I am smart
I know that I am
Weeping, emotional outbursts, tempest of passion
I am doomed to live with them
I am determined
Like Grandpa and his pension
And I have faith
I will not let Granny spit in my face
Face trembling and her eyes are red
Can't grasp the concept in my head
His voice is fading while on the bed
It's true, my grandpa is really dead
