Haunted Sleep

Waking up night after night,
Staring up through my window at the dark night sky,
Shaking violently a tear in my eye,
Everything's silent but I'm screaming inside.

A darkened dream,
His eyes piercing through me until I scream,
His hands round my throat, a knife at my side,
Am I still living? Have I already died?

I feel no pain as the ghostly blade slices through me,
But in my head it still hurts to relive this memory,
Night after night as I sleep,
Silenced by a fear that can't speak.

Flashbacks of my threatened past,
Fear that will always last,
Abused and scared as I was when I was young,
I relive it in dreams that leave me numb.

Waking with a start my hand shifts to my scars,
I sit there silently crying as the early hours pass,
Nobody can hear my muffled tears,
Nobody understands my fears.

Waking up night after night,
Staring up through my window at the dark night sky,
Shaking violently a tear in my eye,
Everything's silent but I'm screaming inside.
