Heavenly Father

In the depths of the night, the grueling past is what haunts me.
The shadows lurking beyond what I can see,
and the further it takes me, my demons won't let me be.

A dark figured man takes my hand and leads me to a door,
could it be that I have been here before?
As I turn the knob and push with full force,
I am greeted by a man, not by my choice.

The look upon his face is fearfully frightening,
but what he soon tells me will forever be enlightening.

For he had told me:
"I am your father. I am your God.
You are my child, the one from above.
Though you got lost and found your way,
please, come home. Forever you'll stay."

I smiled in awe as the dark turned into light,
my demons disappeared back into the night.
I took my father's hand and gave him a hug,
he smiled at me and said,
"Welcome home, my love."
