Heavenly Paradox

We are taller when we bow
soar highest on our knees
we do our best work when we cease our striving
can hold the most people with arms raised to heaven
our world grows larger the more of it we give away
We find our identity the moment we lose it
gain our lives when we lay them down
are most ourselves when we have lost ourselves
in you
Surrender is our victory
poverty our wealth
and humility is all we have to boast in
For you
have turned the world upside down
given sight to a blind man
while the seeing grope in darkness
revealed wisdom to children
and hidden it from the wise
Yours is this heavenly paradox
that the freest gift in the world
is the one that demands everything
What we give to you is found
the moment it leaves our hands
