Her Bones

If he were to undress you tonight
You would be as pale as a star
But not shining quite as bright
Your lips would curve into a crescent moon
Composed of runway red lips

The stars would hang down from the sky
As though they were attached to threads
And you would wake up to the sun
That would wash away your silver smile
And leave your body too dull to see

Make love to her bones
Not to her skin
Because her skin will tear too easy
And I know you won't help
Sew her back together

I'm not sure that I truly believe in you
In all of your bits and pieces
I'm not sure that I know you well enough
All of your sweeping beauty
To love you

But heart and mind be damned
Thoughts and insecurities
I can't promise you
But I can promise you me
