Her Godless Daughter

The day I told my mother
That I didn't believe in her God,
She just about lost her mind.
She drenched her words in holy water
And rebaptized me in slander.
She cried gospel tears
Then prayed for my salvation
And when she finally caught her breath
She asked me
Why?
When I mustered up the courage to answer her
I said
I refuse
To believe
I was born in sin
I refuse
To believe the creator
Made woman from man
And I refuse
To separate myself from the divine.
I am Amethyst,
Carnelian,
And Rose Quartz.
I am incense and burning sage.
I am moon’s light and sun’s kiss,
And I am my mother’s daughter.
