Here’s to the Girls

Here's to the girls that aren't pink and frilly, but black and plaid.
The ones who are fall and winter instead of spring or summer.
Here's to the girls who are clumsy and awkward.
Who don't have the right amount of freckles dusting their nose,
but bags under their eyes.
Their eyes hold swamps and coals instead of the oceans and gold.
Those who don't go to parties whether by choice or not.
Here's to the girls who are sunflowers instead of roses,
the ones choosing to be a coming storm rather than a raging fire.
