He's Lucky to Be Alive

The night brought back the pain,
which I'd thought had been gone,
when he'd said he'd change.
He knew, he said, he'd brought me pain.

Which I'd thought had been gone,
his addictions fought and pushed back.
He knew, he'd said, he'd brought me pain.
After so many years, it still reigned.

His addictions fought and pushed back,
time and time again, and I lived.
After so many years, it still reigned.
He's lucky to be alive.

Time and time again, and I lived
through it all, with broken promises.
He's lucky to be alive.
I've feared lately, that he'd die.

Through it all, with broken promises,
he's still alive to try again.
I've feared lately, that he'd die.
Only God keeps me alive.
